Our Memories of Him

Grandfather [gran-fah-ther, grand-] - noun
1. father of one's father or mother;
2. a forefather;
3. originator of a family, the first of one's kind, or the one being longest in existence


I particularly like the third definition. He's definitely the first of his kind; and being so, is unique and very special to us.  GNM

Once upon a time, Papa Stan dropped the cookie jar. The first reprimand came from his 18 month old granddaughter, Natalie: "Uh Oh! Look what YOU did, Papa Stan!"

Most embarrassing moment for Papa Stan: Wearing the sombrero at Chi-Chi's for his birthday. I think he was ready to strangle all of us in his own refined way. GNM

• Fun Memories

Spending several weeks at a time during the summers or at Christmas with Papa Stan and Mama B. Our trip to the Cyclorama after Dionne's wedding in Oklahoma and the visit with Dean and Sheree in Euless(Useless), TX. The trip to my parents new home in West Columbia, TX, that he, Mama B, and I made in 2000. It was very special spending Mother's Day with the 3 generations together.  GNM

Papa Stan's Mealtime Prayer: "Lord, we ask that You will bless this food we are about to partake in the strengthening and nourishment of our bodies, in Christ's name, Amen."

Enjoyments and Pleasures

Classical guitar, piano, barbershop quartet, Kathleen Battle, Christopher Parkining, The Mamas and the Papas, Celtic Woman, Sean Connery, stocks and bonds, saving money and spending it frugally, Macintosh computers, amateur chess, golf, professional golf ball collector (ponds are his favorite spot), genealogies, reading the paper, and "resting his eyes"

Favorite Foods

Greek and Middle Eastern, Steak and Seafood, wines, cheeses, European chocolates, key lime pie, chess pie, pecan pie, coffee, various varieties of specialty nuts (particularly pecans, cashews, and pistachios), Raisin Bran with two scoops, anything microwaveable and easy to fix, English muffins, Pimento cheese spread, and chicken salad.

Nemesis

Cats. Cats that play chess (or steal the chess pieces), cats that like turtle soup, cats that bite toes.

Any computers not of the Apple family. Dishwater and dirty dishes.
